Centred around understanding Parkinson's patients experiences and leading research in the Parkinson's Disease research field, 4 interactive speakers have been invited to bring you and engaging and informative event.

Join us March 18th, 2021 from 4pm- 8pm to learn more about Parkinson's disease from various perspectives and field of studies.

100% of the proceeds raised from this event will be donated to Parkinson's Quebec to help various Parkinson's communities, patients, and research.

Speaking on L-DOPA Induced Dyskinesia and it's treatments.

Dr. Huot's research centres around the use of experimental models of Parkinson’s disease (PD) to develop new drugs for the disease. The two main components of his research focus on finding therapies to alleviate the incontrollable movements that follow the administration of anti-parkinsonian drugs, as well as on the search for a cure for the disease.

Speaking on the freezing of gait in Parkinson's Disease.

Dr. Kaylena Ehgoetz Martens is an assistant professor and researcher at the University of Waterloo. She is interested in studying how the brain controls movement and how this process fails with diseases such as Parkinson's. Her research integrates the neural basis of gait and cognitive-emotional interactions in health and disease, such as anxiety. Additionally, she investigates how innovative technologies, such as virtual reality, can play a role in preventing gait disturbances and falls.

Presentation: When you think about Parkinson's Disease

Helene Deutsch, M.Sc. is a Parkinson Canada volunteer and former registered nurse living with Parkinson's Disease. She is a dedicated supporter and educator in the community for patients, care partners, and health care professionals. 


Helene uses her clinical experience to work with support groups and provide information sessions. Notably, her information sessions 'Parkinson's Disease 101' and 201, organized with Parkinson Canada,  are aimed to educate newly diagnosed patients and health care professionals, respectively. These sessions cover topics like diagnosis, symptoms, adaptation strategies, therapies and much more.

Speaking on the neural mechanisms behind dance therapy in Parkinson's disease.

Dr. DeSouza is an associate professor and researcher at York University. He focuses his research on the mystery behind how music unlocks the movements of people who are normally stiff and periodically immobilized because Parkinson's Disease.
